Our Story
The Harbor story began with a holy conflagration burning in the hearts of God's people in a county of mounting challenges.
There is no doubt that Scripture mandates the care of the poor, the infirmed, the widow and the orphan. It is one of the most primary components of the activity of God's people during this age of grace. The fellowship and maturation of God's people are to result in "His Kingdom Come" in the places where His people gather. Churches, organization, clubs, retailers and professional agencies have partnered to write the Harbor story - which began separately in the hearts of two churches who would merge and one day become the Blue Water Free Methodist Church. Having been given several opportunities to evaluate the impact of their individual churches in the areas they served, they realized they had fallen short. They began to pray that the Lord would raise them up to be obedient to His mandates. Shortly thereafter they merged, and as a result of the most extraordinary circumstances, they were able to purchase the Sparlingville Elementary School in which to inaugurate their new church. The first dollars collected were assigned to the development of the Church's mission to feed, clothe, tend and care for the needs of the poor, the infirmed, the widow and the orphan. This was quite contrary to the "last" dollars and priority usually given to missions. But what a difference it made! Harbor Impact Ministries opened in June of 2010. Monthly we serve an average of 450 families or 1,200 people. As the need for the services of Harbor Impact Ministries multiplies, so does the need for increasing support. We have been blessed by and continually look to the generosity of our community. |
